Describe your business in a tweet.
I help fab foodie start-ups to do their own responsive PR in 10 mins a day for only £49pm in my membership group The Smoothie Bar.
What is your favourite business book and why?
I have lots of business biographies on my shelf including Richard Branson, Karren Brady and Howard Shultz, all of which I've really enjoyed.
My favourite business resource is actually a podcast called How I Built This which interviews the people behind the huge brands we know and love. So many of them went through hard times to get to where they are now and it really inspires me when I'm still so relatively early in my own business journey.
Who is your business hero and why?
I think I'd probably say Lord Alan Sugar because I love his no-nonsense approach to life and business.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Finding my exact niche in the food industry was a huge challenge.
My corporate background was 10 years as a digital marketing copywriter, so I automatically started doing that within the food industry when I first started my business.
However, I realised that most start-ups don't know what a copywriter is or does. I was doing responsive PR on the side for people and not telling anyone, yet everyone knows what PR is!
Luckily, I had my lightbulb moment and totally u-turned my business name, brand and focus to offer affordable and responsive PR services with Smoothie PR, and things have been so much more successful since.
What has been your greatest success?
Every single time one of my Smoothies gets a new piece of PR, my heart soars like a proud mother hen.
If I can be a small part of helping them to grow their brilliant brand without a huge budget then that is the ultimate success I'm looking for.
What piece of advice do you wish you had known when starting out?
I wish I'd known what kind of help was out there when you first start a business and have no real clue about what you're doing.
For example, I didn't find Enterprise Nation until about a year into my business and many things would have been a lot easier if I had found it earlier!
What's your one top tip for business success?
Find a recurring revenue stream in your business such as monthly membership payments or, multiple revenue streams so that you're not just relying on a single outlet or client.
It's impossible to have a sustainable business if your success hangs on one source of income because that could potentially finish at any moment.
If you had a superpower what would it be and why?
I'd love to fly. It's quicker than driving long distances!
