What was your motivation to start your own business?
I've worked for myself all my life. I've had great success and thumping failures. Throughout, I've neglected providing a pension pot which will provide a comfortable retirement. So, at the age of 62, I finally decided to address the gaping hole and it required some creative thinking. Network marketing ticks all the boxes. With a lot of hard work and determination, I can build residual income, to the level I need, within three to five years. And, if I can use my skills to help other people do the same, then that's a win/win business opportunity for me.
Whilst you were starting up how did you balance home life with work?
I'm lucky. My children have flown the nest. I'm treating this opportunity as a new business and full time job. I'm investing in it and have no expectations of taking any money out of the business while I'm building it. I have a short time frame to reach my goals.
What is your top tip for effective sales and marketing?
Connect with people. Get to know their pain points. Offer value.
Which tools could you not live without in your business?
To be honest, apart from the obvious (phone and laptop), I could live without any of them. They make life easier but aren't critical.
What movie, song or book offers you the most business inspiration and why?
Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Never let people's opinions destroy your dream. If you stay focussed and believe in yourself, you will soar.
What has been your biggest business success to date?
Taking the decision to do it. It's still early stages for me so I'm in the 'putting your shoulder on the grind wheel' phase. The big successes are yet to come.
If you had to live on a desert island with one entrepreneur who would it be and why?
Steve Jobs. He never let anyone get in the way of his vision.
What are your ambitions for the next five years?
To build a company which will provide a pension for myself and also for the people who choose to join me. Financial independence is the goal.
How does being a member of Enterprise Nation help your business grow?
I hope that Enterprise Nation will help me connect with entrepreneurs who will see the business opportunity. Typically, business owners often invest in their businesses first and don't address a pension until it's too late. My business will grow as I build a team of like-minded people.
