What was your motivation to start your own business?

Protein Powder Pea

I started my website as a hobby while doing my PhD in an unrelated area. The website quickly began gaining momentum and, before long, I realised that what I focused on (nutrition-rich protein recipes) was a rapidly-growing niche with mainstream appeal and that I was pioneering a brand new style of cooking. So I created Protein Pow as a business and started working with supplement companies worldwide, hosting workshops, writing cookbooks, and launching an app. Last year I launched my own own protein-based cooking mixes.

Whilst you were starting up how did you balance home life with work?

I don't still I've mastered that yet! I have a 13 month old baby and sometimes it can be tricky to balance home and work life, particularly with under five hours of sleep some days!

What's your top tip for effective sales and marketing?

I think that loving what you do and being passionate about it is key to creating an 'honest' message that readers/customers can engage with.

Which tools could you not live without in your business?

My camera, computer, and a stylus to draw with!

What movie, song or book offers you the most business inspiration and why?

 although that's more about writing than business. 

 would have to be one of my favourite business inspiration books.

What has been your biggest business success to date?

Landing a deal with Nutricentre and Tesco.

If you had to live on a desert island with one entrepreneur who would it be and why?

Probably Richard Branson because of his experience and expertise in creating engaging and dynamic brands.

What are your ambitions for the next five years?

For everyone to incorporate our cooking mixes into their lives! They create some of the nicest healthy snacks on the planet!
