Meet the Enterprise Nation team: Sophie Arnold, head of membership

Posted: Thu 1st Feb 2018
To give you an insight into the faces behind Enterprise Nation, we're posting interviews with members of the team. Next up is head of membership, Sophie Arnold.
What's your role at Enterprise Nation and how does a typical day look for you?
I feel like everyone at Enterprise Nation could say this, but a typical day is difficult to describe!
As head of membership, whatever I’m doing is always focussed on making sure our members get the best experience.
Whether that's coming up with new member benefits, making sure we're doing our best to support current members or working on ways to bring new people into the community.
At the moment a lot of my time is focussed on the build of our new online platform and ensuring it delivers the best value for members, I can’t wait to share the results with you all in a couple of months!
What's the one thing you most enjoy about working with small businesses?
The number one thing for me is the variety! I love working with all the diverse types of people we have in our community with such a range of different ideas and the one thing that brings them all together is a determination to succeed.
Which member story has most struck a chord with you?
There are so many, but I think the one that personally warmed my heart is The Country Dog Hotel.
The way Rebecca has combined her passion and business savvy to create a business which she blends seamlessly with her family life is an inspiration and a perfect example of the strengths of being an entrepreneur.
Plus, that Instagram feed!
What's your favourite Enterprise Nation event and why?
Can I choose an online event? I really love our weekly online masterclasses.
I think they provide such a great benefit for our members. A good 30 minutes of condensed learning every week to keep you up to date and thinking about new things. I try to tune in even when I’m not hosting them myself.
If you weren't at Enterprise Nation, which company would you most like to work for?
I would love to run an independent music venue. Live music is a big passion of mine so being able to experience that every day would be amazing.
Independent venues are the small businesses at the heart of music industry and play such an important role.
P.S. It's Independent Venue Week this week and there's loads going on. Please go to a show and support your local venue if you can!
Tell us one thing about you that not many people know.
I have a pet tortoise that lives at my mum’s house in Cornwall, he’s in his mid-fifties, charmingly stupid and adorable.
Oh, and in university, I co-hosted a Minecraft YouTube series that has had around 200,000 views.
