Explore our free library of GPT prompts for businesses. Boost productivity with AI-ready templates for marketing, finance, customer service and more.

Understandably, navigating the nuances of prompt writing can be challenging, leading to results that don't quite meet expectations. Most people still use basic prompts that barely scratch the surface of what’s possible. They type simple questions, then wonder why their results feel generic.

Poorly constructed prompts waste your time and money. Crafting effective prompts can be the key to unlocking the true capabilities of this powerful AI tool. Whether you're now a seasoned user or just getting started, mastering the art of prompt creation is crucial for making the most of ChatGPT or other similar tools on the market.

What are GPT prompts?

A prompt is a text, audio or image input that starts and guides a conversation with an AI chatbot’s interface to receive the types of responses you’re interested in. It serves as the guiding question that shapes the content of the generated text.

How can small businesses use them?

As a small business owner, you're constantly searching for ways to boost productivity, grow your revenue and save time without taking on more work. When applied correctly, these can be very potent tools, particularly when combined with well-crafted prompts. For the best results, it's important to know what to ask and how to structure your requests.

With the right approach to prompting, AI can improve customer engagement, streamline processes, strengthen marketing initiatives and more.

In this webinar, Shimron Walters compares ChatGPT and Google Gemini so that you can understand their strengths and weaknesses:

Tips for GPT use (free versus paid)

The free version of these AI chatbots was so popular when they first launched that the next logical step was to create premium paid versions of the tool and multiple tiers of that, too.

The free version is ideal for casual users who want to experiment with AI without having to commit to a subscription. But if you consider yourself an AI superuser, then one of the paid versions is the way to go. But then again, which tier?

  • Free version

Pros: Great for simple tasks like drafting emails, generating social media content or summarising information.

Cons: However, it has limitations, including lower usage caps and restricted access to advanced tools for deep research, image generation or voice mode. Plus, slower response times during peak hours and you won’t have access during blackout periods.

  • Paid versions

Some tiers are more affordable than others. For example, ChatGPT Plus is $20/month, while ChatGPT Pro has an eye-watering price tag of $200/month.

Pros: You are guaranteed access to the chatbot even during blackout periods. You also get higher usage limits, faster response times and priority access to new features. Plus, users benefit from tools like Deep Research, which offers comprehensive reports with citations, valuable for tasks like market analysis and content creation.

If you are on the highest (most expensive) tier and have access to the latest version, you get increased accuracy, a deeper understanding of context and the ability to handle more complex queries.

Cons: The price tag, but if your work heavily relies on AI capabilities to be accurate and reliable, then it is a no-brainer.

Best practice for prompting from Enterprise Nation adviser Tara Elzingre

  • Be clear, specific and concise in what you're seeking

  • Start with an initial prompt, review the response and refine it based on the output

  • Set your desired tone. Use descriptive adjectives to indicate the tone

  • Help it understand the audience you're talking to

  • Set any other parameters you want it to adhere to

  • Add any keywords you want to use (or avoid using)

Instructions for customisation

The more information and context you provide, the more personalised is the AI’s output. Include background information and your objectives in the prompt. For example, if you want to personalise your customer interactions, outline your demographics, interests and buying habits.
