Five ways to increase happiness at work no.3: Prioritise

Posted: Wed 2nd May 2012
How can we work more productively, be happier and decrease our stress at work? Every day this week, we're featuring a happiness tip from wellbeing expert Sinead MacManus. A yoga fanatic, Sinead is the founder of 8fold and author of The Business Yogi: How to be Happy at Work. Here's tip number three from Sinead:
3. Focus on a small number of priorities - and get them done
If you have 63 items on your daily to-do list, guess what? You won't get them finished by the end of the day. There is a real psychological boost to crossing off everything on your list for the day, and finishing work on a high. Try it for yourself. Tomorrow morning, instead of the giant to-do list, take a Post-it and write 1 to 3 Most Important Tasks that you want to get done. Without distraction (no email, no Twitter, no phone), work on your first priority for the day until it is complete. Take a break, and start on number two. By the end of the day, you will have crossed off everything on your list - a great day!
