Elected to Parliament in 1997, Gareth was the Minister for International Development, responsible for Britain’s aid to Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka and then as Minister for Africa.

He was also Minister for Trade, leading trade negotiations with the European Union and other countries, such as India, Singapore and China. Before his political career, Gareth was a teacher in Harrow, London.
