Small business advisers share their victories

Posted: Tue 12th Apr 2022

The entrepreneurial path is not an easy one. And whilst some small business owners feel comfortable going it alone, others prefer to seek guidance from an expert. That’s where the Enterprise Nation adviser community comes in. Providing support to thousands of small businesses owners every year, they’re the unsung heroes of Enterprise Nation.

Last week we published more success stories from Enterprise Nation’s small business community. This week, it’s the turn of our adviser members.

Victoria Brown

Need to find your brand tone of voice? Want to give your writing some sparkle? Content and copywriting specialist Victoria Brown will help you to write more effectively and attract your ideal customers. 2022 is already shaping up to be a bumper year for Victoria. “I’m so excited to say that I started my very own podcast: 'Creative Slurp'. I believe that, with the right tools and mindest, it’s possible for everyone to earn a living from their passion, and through my podcast I’m on a mission to uncover the secrets of running a successful creative business. I’ve also created my first writing course – 'Social Sprinkles' – which is designed to improve your writing skills in just a couple of hours. And to top it off, I’ve just become a Local Leader for Enterprise Nation too, hosting monthly meet-ups for businesses in and around Solihull.”

Matthew Fowell

Wolverhampton-based Matthew Fowell, is a digital marketing consultant, Prince’s Trust mentor, public speaker, and founder and managing director of Engage First Page. Offering a data-driven approach, he works with small business owners to grow their brands online. “Through digital marketing, I’ll help stimulate long-term growth for your business. Within a year of setting up Engage First Page, we became a certified Google Partner. Becoming a Google Partner has helped me to position myself as an expert in my field. It also means that I’m always up-to-date with any changes happening in the digital world, and is recognition of the fact that we maximise campaign success for our clients.”

Michelle Spaul

Happy customers become loyal. And loyal customers spend more. But unlike multinational businesses who can employ a team, small business owners don’t always have the time or resource to think about their customers’ experience. Customer Experience Consultant and founder of Delta Swan, Michelle Spaul, believes that small businesses deserve the competitive advantages enjoyed by big companies. “I understand the time and cost constraints that get in the way. I can support you by stepping into the shoes of your customer and creating a clear picture of their needs. I've just been voted #8 in Customer Experience Magazine’s ‘CX Stars’ – an annual list of the UK’s most dedicated CX’ers who strive to transform businesses.”

Rhea Freeman

Content marketing and social media expert, Rhea Freeman, is no stranger to the Enterprise Nation community. A regular Lunch and Learn host, a business.connected adviser, and an accredited #SheMeansBusiness trainer, Rhea helps small businesses, solopreneurs and influencers promote themselves better with little to no budget. “Last month I received a business boost from retail magnate Theo Paphitis. I tweeted Theo about my business during ‘Small Business Sunday’ and was one of six weekly winners to gain a retweet by Theo to his near half a million Twitter followers. I’m completely delighted, very grateful, and a little surprised to have won. I work really hard to support a range of small businesses in teaching them how to leverage PR opportunities and social media to help them grow, and to have Theo recognise my work in this way is brilliant. I’ve had a real surge in Twitter followers since the content was shared.”

Amber Leach

Amber Leach is an award-winning wedding photographer, marketing and PR consultant, entrepreneur, and business coach. Since launching her first business, Amber has featured in over 40 magazines and blogs, was nominated for The Guardian’s 'Best New Start-Up' award, and has won the ‘Top 50 UK Wedding Photographers’ award for three consecutive years. “I’m deeply passionate about the true empowerment of female entrepreneurs and want to teach them what I’ve learnt from over 15 years as a successful businesswoman. I help my clients reach their designated income goals, growing their business through a series of tried and tested marketing and business strategies. I’m happy to announce that, not only have I just become a short course tutor at Plymouth University, but I’m also starting a new position as a business mentor at Virgin StartUp.”

Luke Fletcher

Having been an accountant for over a decade, Luke Fletcher grew frustrated with the compliance-led approach to accounting that left too many small businesses without the advice they needed. So, in April 2021, Enterprise Nation’s Local Leader for Berkshire founded Raw Accounting. “We’re on a mission to help our clients save time and money by offering small business owners expert, jargon-free advice they can rely on, putting them in control of their finances. I believe that choosing an accountant should be a very personal decision. You need to pick someone you can build a long-term relationship with; one of mutual trust, understanding, and one where they take the time to get to know you and the business. So for me, the buzz when a new client signs up with us is a small win that never gets old.”

Fin Wycherley

Do you struggle to create and plan content for your social media accounts? Would you like to learn the easiest and most time-efficient ways to manage your social media like a champion? Look no further than Fin Wycherley. Fin, the award-winning founder and CEO of social media and digital marketing consultancy, Supersize Media, helps ambitious entrepreneurs attract clients with digital strategies and tools to increase revenue and boost sales. And Fin might soon be needing a bigger trophy cabinet. “I’ve just become a finalist in the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for Digital Marketing! The theme for the evening will be ‘Celebrating Edinburgh’ – because, as a city, we believe we have much to be proud of. I’m also Enterprise Nation’s Local Leader for Edinburgh.”

Clive Bonny

Since 1990 Clive has worked as a strategic management partner, delivering government-funded advice to SMEs. His work has focused on capacity building, profitable growth, job creation, and access to finance for small businesses and start-ups. “Our clients benefit from reduced-cost consultancy through our access to various funds. We provide strategic planning advice, training, coaching and support across a wide range of sectors to provide proven process improvements. And this year alone we’ve introduced fully funded support for over 20 start-ups already.”

Jeremy Mason

Found of MP Video Production, Jeremy Mason, fuses over twenty years’ broadcast TV experience with deep knowledge and enthusiasm for all things digital and video marketing. “I help purpose-driven business owners create targeted, effective and valuable video content that connects and inspires their audiences, and empowers their businesses to grow. There has never been a better time to create your own video content; to be the author of your own business story, and really embrace the opportunities that exist online. I love helping small businesses do exactly that."

It's been a busy start to 2022 for Jeremy on Enterprise Nation, with six blog posts and two Lunch and Learn webinars under his belt already. “Through my work with Enterprise Nation I’ve landed some exciting new clients – and have been collaborating with one of my fellow advisers to further support small businesses.”
