Enterprise Nation founder Emma Jones MBE has joined the trustee board of new career platform Plotr as chair, it has been announced today.
Emma's expertise in the start-up world will help not-for-profit Plotr develop its entrepreneurial arm in order to match Britain's record number of small businesses with young people displaying a talent for entrepreneurship.
She will also be advising Plotr as it seeks to extend the guidance it offers to young people aged 11 to 24 looking to develop an entrepreneurial mindset with a view to becoming self-starters - as well as finding employment opportunities.
Emma is also the co-founder of national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain, a best-selling author of entrepreneurial books, an adviser to the think tank Centre for Entrepreneurs and her company also delivers a marketplace for the Government's £30m Growth Voucher programme. She was awarded an MBE in 2013 for services to enterprise.
Emma joins the Plotr board today alongside entrepreneur and 'Dragon's Den' panellist, Piers Linney, Co-CEO of cloud-based IT business Outsourcery.
"Whether young people choose to start their own business or get a job, they need to be equipped with entrepreneurial skills and a positive attitude. They also need help in deciding on the direction for their career. Plotr is the fastest growing online platform connecting young people to opportunities in companies, both large and small, and I'm delighted to be getting involved at this exciting time of the company's development."
We are delighted too, because Emma joining Plotr as Chair is an outstanding opportunity. We all know that entrepreneurship is an increasingly significant element of young people's careers planning. Not only in so far as the growing opportunity for entering into self-employment and starting a business, but also in terms of more and more employers and career roles requiring an entrepreneurial mindset. Indeed the planning and navigating of a modern career path requires an entrepreneurial approach in itself.
Jim Carrick-Birtwell, CEO, Plotr said:
"Emma Jones is perfectly placed to help Plotr make the connections between careers inspiration, enterprise and SMEs.
"Enterprise is about more than the creation of entrepreneurs, it is about a can-do and positive attitude and equipping young people with the confidence to develop a career and vocational interests.
"And small businesses, which make up almost half of the UK economy, are in Plotr's crosshairs as we aim to harness their potential for engaging and skilling young people. Emma's experience and passion both as an entrepreneur and an enterprise guru will be invaluable to Plotr and to all young people. We're thrilled to have her as our new chair.""‹
