I am a lawyer who has worked in-house as well as run my own specialist intellectual property law firm for more than 15 years. I specialise in brands and trade marks, and this led to a deep interest in branding and a mini MBA from Marketing Week/Mark Ritson in brand management. As such I have a holistic view of branding as it includes intellectual property which is not a topic that marketers, designers and others involved in branding are trained in currently, even though it is intrinsic to how brand identifiers like names, logos, symbols, packaging, colours can be legally owned.
