The Building Legacies programme, a partnership of private and public sector organisations, is a flagship local business growth and procurement support project of the East London Business Place (ELBP) and Newham College of Further Education’s Centre for Innovation & Partnerships (CIPs) that enhances the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
Building Legacies provides an innovative service for SMMEs and start-up businesses, predominantly (but not exclusively) in construction, digital/creative and care-related sectors to enable them to become fit to supply providing tailored solutions to SMMEs through workshops, briefings, masterclasses, toolkits, networking and 1-2-1 coaching & mentoring.
The programme offers intensive business support to ensure 400 SMMEs benefit from East London and legacy buying opportunities, utilising ERDF funding to deliver a sustained supported programme tackling gaps in SMMEs’ innovation, contract-readiness and knowledge of procurement and supply-chain requirements.
The programme model is based on a tailored programme of support, underpinned by an engagement and brokerage service for main contractors and buying organisations to help diversify their supply chains, through their local supply chain management strategies.

The programme also aims to increase SMMEs' business confidence to understand the market opportunities resulting from emerging and legacy opportunities, and hence supply higher value contracts to grow their business and make significant progress in accessing new markets and increasing sales.
SMMEs participate in a series of tailored business support activities that build on their identified needs, to help support their growth, and help them develop sales in existing and new markets, by supplying emerging and legacy opportunities.
