What is your favourite business book and why?

I have found Good to Great by Jim Collins useful. Based on extensive research of over 1,000 businesses over a 40 year period, Jim Collins singles out 11 companies who were really 'great' and then analyses what they did differently. The findings of the book provide really good pointers of what to focus on (and ignore) as we grow.

Who is your business hero and why?

I have many and none are famous. I am most impressed by those that create long-lasting businesses that 'give back'. Either to employees or to society, for instance Larry Sullivan of the Coins Foundation. I'm also in awe of those that create disruptive businesses. These are far more difficult to 'get off the ground' and take a great deal of resilience.

Describe your business in a tweet.

We are a talent and recruitment consultancy helping businesses build and recruit agile teams that work for them and those working with them.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Balancing running a business with raising a family.

What has been your greatest success?

Reaching five years with a thriving business and still enjoying the challenge of running and growing it.

What piece of advice do you wish you had known when starting out?

That innovation is all about 'trial and error'. Don't be afraid of failure - if something doesn't work, tweak it and try again.

Why do you consider long-term strategic advice important to business success?

Seeking, listening to and taking long-term strategic advice helps you succeed more quickly. Of course, it may not all be relevant to you, you will need to pick and choose, but on the whole, you will almost always learn something new and valuable from those trying to help you.

If you had a superpower what would it be and why?

The ability to increase the number of hours in the day. There are never enough.

Amanda's masterclass, how to build a high performance workforce, is at 12.30pm on 8 November. To register for the masterclass go here or log in to your membership account and go to the events page to join in for free.
