Former teacher and mum-of-two Julia Packwood shares how she founded Nurturing Wild to help parents get outdoors with their little ones, and how Grow London Local helped her along the way.

Nurturing Wild offers families with kids under five nature-based learning sessions led by experienced teachers in south-east London.

Tell us about your business.

Hi, I'm Julia Packwood and my business is Nurturing Wild. My business is all about connecting children with nature.

What's been your biggest challenge as a business owner?

The biggest challenge for me is I come from an education background and not a business background. Particularly when you're starting out and you're doing everything yourself. It's been a very, very steep learning curve.

How did you find Grow London Local?

I found out about Grow London Local through attending an event at my local library. I'd heard through the grapevine that there was support available for small businesses through the library and I was lucky enough to attend an event where Grow London Local were present.

They talked about all the support that they offer businesses. So, I jumped at the opportunity to reach out and get in touch.

What was your initial experience with Grow London Local?

What I like about the process is you have an initial diagnostic, which just allows you the opportunity to talk through your business.

It also looks at the timeframe of your business, what point you're currently at and what your biggest needs are.

What advice would you give to other small businesses in London?

It'll save you so much time and energy and you'll get really valuable advice and support to get your business off the ground.
