Meet the hair stylist trying to reach new clients

As a local business owner, Anita Papai knows the power of community. But reaching new clients through her marketing has been a challenge, along with keeping afloat when a lot of consumers are saving up on their beauty spend.

At Hackney Cowlick Collective, an independent collective of hairdressers working with clients from all genders, Anita has found that business expenses can creep up and finding funding by herself was challenging.

Tell us about your business.

Hi there, my name is Anita Papai and we opened Hackney Cowlick in July 2023.

We're an independent collective of hairdressers and beauty in the hair and beauty industry. We work with both genders. We are doing haircuts, hair ups, hair dos, hair straightening, perm, permanent waves.

What's the biggest challenge you face as a small business?

The biggest challenges, I would say, are marketing and finding the funding for the everyday business expenses. Just keeping up with the challenges that we're having as business owners.

How were you first introduced to Grow London Local?

We were looking for support and Geoff was available and is helping us through the way so far. And yeah, I'm very happy with what support he gave us.

How did Grow London Local helped your business?

Grow London Local has helped us to be more polished, more out there and more visible in our local businesses and local life in general.

What are you looking forward to doing with Grow London Local?

As a small business owner, we will need more publishing. As we don't have much of a funding from ourselves for all of this. It would be a big help. And even just to just help us to grow.

What advice would you give to other small business owners?

Don't be scared of asking for help as we rely on help sometimes, and there's nothing wrong with asking for help.
