Lunch and Learn: Refreshing careers for older workers

Posted: Thu 12th Oct 2023

In this Lunch and Learn, Enterprise Nation's head of media, Liz Slee, talks to two career experts about the prospect of encouraging older workers to start a business or re-enter the workforce with a fresh career.

Suzanne Noble is co-founder of the StartUp School for Seniors, while Abigail Shervington works at public engagement manager at Phoenix Group.

According to new research from Enterprise Nation and The Entrepreneurs' Network, there is a big appetite among the over 50s to use their skills and knowledge to start their own business, find a new and more fulfilling career, or mentor a younger business founder.

The study also overwhelmingly found that if we don't harness the skills of older people, our economy won't reach its potential.

Key takeaways from this session:

  • How older workers can leverage their skills and experience to start businesses

  • How older workers can find fulfilling careers and mentor the next generation

  • Gain valuable insights from industry experts, including tips and strategies for successfully navigating a career refresh or entrepreneurial journey

I am head of media at Enterprise Nation and have spent the past 12 years working with start-up and small businesses to help them build solid marketing and PR campaign strategies that really help them to grow. I have also worked with the national enterprise campaign StartUp Britain, the fintech investment platform provider Smart Pension and trade skills charity the HomeServe Foundation on media and policy. All of these were built from scratch and grew, with marketing and PR central to that expansion.
