I seldom seen managers and leaders in SME’s who have had the right amount of training and internal coaching to enable them to do the required job effectively.
One of the main reasons employees cite as the reason for leaving their job is due to poor leadership somewhere above their level.
With work getting more complex and pressurised the need for good leadership is the greatest it has been. If you are new into a role or just feel that you are struggling then I suggest you access some external help.
An external mentor and coach becomes your trusted partner that you can share your challenges with and who will provide you with ideas and methods of self-reflection that will enable you firstly to regain your perspective and then plan a way forward, building experience and skills along the way. When I ask clients at the beginning of their journey with me whether they enjoy their new role the answer is sadly often no.
Great to have a pay rise, kudos, parking space etc however the impact it has on your mental health and very often on those dearest to you is sometimes not actually worth the change.
It does not have to be like this and the starting point is talking to someone who knows how to help.
I work with leaders and managers of SME’s to enable them to fulfil their potential and to start enjoying their role, becoming more effective and influencing the next generation in a positive way.
