Lunch and Learn: How to find and apply for government grants

Posted: Thu 7th Sep 2023

In this Lunch and Learn session, Lucia Webster, Jack Farrar and Lisa White from the Government Grants Management Function show you how they have made it simpler, faster and fairer to find and apply for government grants by creating the new Find a Grant service.

So far, grants worth over £5.5 billion have been advertised and it has been used by over 110,000 people.

Speakers

  • Lucia Webster, deputy director, Grants Efficiency Portfolio

Lucia has been the strategic delivery lead of the Find a Grant Programme in the Cabinet Office since October 2021, with a mission to make finding and applying for government grants simpler, faster, fairer and more efficient for all.

She has a broader remit leading the Grants Efficiency Portfolio to identify further efficiencies to modernise and innovate grant-making. Previously, Lucia has held leadership roles in both the public and private sectors focused on leading large programmes, strategy and service design.

  • Jack Farrar, efficiency PMO manager, Grants Efficiency Portfolio

Jack joined the Find a Grant Programme in October 2021, during the initial discovery phase, as programme manager. He is responsible for leading project management office duties: coordinating governance, compiling internal reports, managing risks and issues, and supporting recruitment and commercial procurement activities.

Jack has prior experience working on cross-government digital services for the Cabinet Office, which he drew upon to support the programme's delivery team to prepare for Alpha and Beta service assessments.

  • Lisa White, interim head of comms and engagement, Grants Efficiency Portfolio

Lisa is the strategic communications and engagement lead for Find a Grant. During phase one of the programme, she created and maintained the 1000-strong community of interest, recruited participants for user research and leveraged the support of the VCSE and SME sectors to co-create and promote the service during its pilot phase.

She has returned to the team for phase two to further promote the service and support the wider Grant Efficiency Portfolio. Lisa brings a wealth of experience to the team from her 30-year career in communications, working for numerous government departments, agencies and public bodies.
