Pivot Project: Business Support & Funding

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets has partnered with Enterprise Nation to deliver the Pivot Project, offering 150 small businesses in the borough a programme of business support and financial support of up to £1,000.

The initiative is open to businesses with up to 49 employees who were trading in Tower Hamlets before 30 June 2021 and whose business needs to adapt to a new business environment.

Tower Hamlets Council works in partnership with local and national agencies to provide businesses with relevant training and advice on subjects such as business planning, marketing, raising finance and becoming fit to supply. They also bring the local business community together through digital networking events, workshops, and seminars.

The eligibility criteria for the programme is:
  • Small businesses trading in London Borough of Tower Hamlets before 30 June 2021
  • You must be registered as a Limited Company on Companies House or be a sole trader registered with HMRC and have a Unique Tax Reference number (UTR)
  • You must have a British business bank account used for day-to-day business transactions
  • You must have fewer than 49 employees
  • You must demonstrate how receiving the grant will help your business to respond to the challenges of the pandemic.
  • You must not have received a cash grant from the first Pivot Project that ran from October 2020 to May 2021

If your business has been affected by COVID-19, you may need to look for new customers or come up with new products and services for existing customers. You may also have decided to trade in new ways, operate in new markets and change the operations of your business. If this is part of your plan, you could be eligible for the Pivot Project.

Before you begin your application, please make sure you have all of the following to hand:
  • A detailed description of your proposed pivot project
  • A full breakdown of how the £1000 grant will be spent
  • Quotes from the suppliers you’d like to use, bearing in mind at least one of them should be based in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
  • Invoices and/or bank statements from the last 3 months to evidence your business is currently active.

We aim to respond to all applications within 21 days. If you’re successful, you’ll be contacted by a member of the Enterprise Nation team who will work with you to ensure you receive your cash grant as well as the additional business support on offer to help you pivot and grow your business.

No, but you will have to pay tax on the grant as it will be recognized as taxable income.

On either professional and advisory services or equipment for your business that will help you pivot and grow your business.

Successful applicants will be able to spend the grant on either advice or hardware that supports the agreed plan to pivot the business. All payments to selected suppliers, whether advisers or product purchases, will be tracked by Enterprise Nation.
