My idea is...
Through most of the 1990s I worked as a freelance Desk Top Publisher with a very loyal group of clients. I have recently retrained for a HND in Graphic Design but, due to the recession, have not been able to secure employment. Ill health of a relative now makes it necessary for me to work from home.
I was recently accepted onto the New Enterprise Allowance scheme, operated by Jobcentre Plus, to set up as a freelance artist and designer, specialising in greetings and giftware. I currently offer original artwork on a print-to-order basis through the websites Café Press, Zazzle and Deviant Art, available on a wide range of clothing, gifts, homeware and novelties.
I am currently seeking funding to allow me time to develop some very exciting ideas to launch throughout 2012. These include:
• A range of greetings cards aimed at the under-served male market, inspired by football club colours. This will encompass cards for birthdays, Christmas, good luck, congratulations, etc, and also gift wrap.
• A print-to-order selection of geometric wall art which should have the facility for the purchaser to customise how the finished piece will appear. This will allow everyone to have a truly one-of-a-kind work of art at a bargain price.
• A typography project based on some of my favourite words from around the world. Suitable for posters, T shirts and possibly a self-published book.
• A range of fun cartoon characters based on fruit, indirectly promoting a healthy eating message. Suitable for T shirts, lunchware, children’s clothes, etc.
• A range of black paper sketches, suitable for art prints. Including winter night scenes that can be used for Christmas cards.
• An ongoing project of sketches, paintings, digital art and work in other media based on the theme of birds. The ultimate aim of this project is a gallery exhibition.
The adviser at the Chamber of Commerce who guided me through writing my business plan called me one of the most focused and organised people she had ever dealt with. So please rest assured your votes will go towards funding someone who is truly genuine and very determined to put my creative talents to good use. All I am lacking is a financial cushion to develop my ideas and this is where I hope you will help.
