Your personal away day

If you’ve worked for others, you’ll recall the team away days when building bridges and bonding was the order of the day. Now you’re the boss you can choose the location and the day’s activity and, best of all, plot your own direction.
There’s nothing better than a personal away day for stepping back from the business and re-focusing your priorities. Here’s what to do:
Book it!
When there are client deadlines to meet, reports to write and invoices to chase, it can be really hard to justify a day or two in the diary as ‘time away.’ Be brave, strike it out and make the booking. It’s an investment of time that’s worth making.
The perfect environment
It doesn’t have be a costly trip in terms of expense but do think about the kind of environment in which you function best. Is it overlooking water or having the feel of sun on your skin. Or a country hotel that looks to trees and mountains.
The perfect guest?
This is quite a tough question. Do you go alone or take a guest? Do you think and plan alone or with your wife/husband/business partner? In which case, maybe they should come too.
Preparation
Preferably arrive at you’re a day/night before so you can relax and clear your mind of business details. Buy a fresh, clean notepad and awake feeling refreshed and ready to begin your mental work-out.
Recording & Realising
The final step. You’ve taken the time to think and plan so record it! Get home, post it up and then work towards turning those ideas and plans into reality.
This personal Away Day may involve two days out of your working week. But it could just be the most important two days of your whole year!
