His 'n' hers

We’ve written before about One Alfred Place; a new club in London that appeals to home business owners who need a base in the city. I visited the club last week and signed up on the spot. Here’s why.

One Alfred Place

Invited by someone who sits on the club’s Committee, I found myself sitting in the stylish surrounds of One Alfred Place last Friday. Whilst there, I bumped into friends I haven’t seen for a while and made a note of the reasons for home business owners to join.

  • Meeting others – inviting a client or contact to meet you at One Alfred Place makes you look professional. I’m sure that home business owners will win new work on account of inviting people to meet them at this club, as opposed to taking space in hotel lobbies. I’m actually going to try this out for myself in the next couple of weeks.
  • You’ll also meet other club members and this may lead to new work in itself. So you could justify the cost of membership (we’ll come on to that in a min) by seeing this as a business development/promotion expense.
  • Just you – when you’re not meeting contacts or chatting with members, the facility is fantastic for lone working. There’s wi-fi throughout and a great mix of open and private work space.
  • Location - the club is just off Tottenham Court Road so close to most major rail stations.
  • Refreshments – the food looks great and the coffee tastes good!
  • Your purse – Now on to the cost. Full membership for a year costs £1,500 (equal to £20 per week) with a one off joining fee of £150. This is what the fee covers:

“all the club’s facilities and services including wireless connectivity, email, the 0207 extension number, voicemail, lockers, shower rooms and the support of the club PAs. Additional charges apply only for consumables such as food, drink, print and the hire of meeting rooms.”

  • The top man - I met the Chief Exec of the club, Rob Shreeve. He’s very keen to attract home business owners and he’s passionate about making sure members get the best value from their membership.

I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Visit the website – or visit the club – and consider joining. If you do, maybe we’ll be bumping into each other in the coffee bar! – Emma Jones
