Spare Room not required
10/06/2008 send to a friend
You don’t need a purpose-built spare room to start a business from home. Enterprise Nation members are operating in corners and spaces all about the house. And some of them are heading outside.
One of the great plus’s of becoming your own boss at home is that you can create a working environment to suit you perfectly. And you can create that environment in pretty much any available space in and about the house.
I do recommend in my book ‘Spare Room Start Up’ that you find some dedicated space but it doesn’t necessarily have to be in a spare room!
- Elod Beregszaszi produces origami in his foldaway bedsit.
- Jackie Cawthra started her bag-making empire from under the stairs.
- Kerryn Greatrix converted her garage to accommodate her business.
- Dr Neil Johnston works in style from his garden penthouse.
- And Erin Thomas prefers the kitchen table!
These home business owners show that as long as you’ve got space in some shape or form, you’re most certainly eligible to be a home based boss! – Emma Jones

Survey
Enterprise Nation is undertaking the largest ever survey of home businesses and we'd love you to help!
It'll only take a few minutes. Your responses won't be shared but they will paint a picture of just what's happening in entrepreneurial homes across the UK. The results will be written up in our 2008 Home Business Report, which will be free and available on the site in October.
