Skype highlights
18/09/2008 send to a friend
As Skype celebrates being in business for five years, we take a look back at some Skype highlights on Enterprise Nation and beyond.
Meet Skype
This is the online company greeting. Written in true Skype style. Simple, friendly, to the point.
"Hello. We’re Skype...
Skype was founded in 2003 by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype created a little piece of software that makes communicating with people around the world easy and fun. With Skype you can say hello or share a laugh with anyone, anywhere. And if both of you are on Skype, it’s free."
Meet Skype on Enterprise Nation
We've covered this young company _a lot_ on the site. Type in 'skype' to the 'ask Emma' bar and you'll see just how much the company has been covered. Here's a few highlights:
8th December 2005 - San Sharma introduces Enterprise Nation readers to Skype for the first time
7th September 2007 - Skype launches a package for small businesses
1st July 2008 - Enterprise Nation meets the Skype business team and finds out about new applications that help home businesses save time and money
1st September 2008 - Karen Hollands of Toniks wins the title '2008 Home Business of the Year' with a business model based on Skype technology
Where next?
Skype will be celebrating 5 years in business at a party tonight. The key speaker is boss of the business, Josh Silverman. We're going to hear what he has to say and will let you know of any exciting news.
It's fair to say Enterprise Nation's love affair with this company has been raging since 2005 and as yet shows no signs of flagging.. Happy Birthday, Skype!

Comment: Hi Emma
We at Remote Employment have recently joined Skype and found it to be a MUST HAVE HOME OFFICE TOOL!
We had a situation where I had to dart off to Cape Town on family business and was able to chat to my business partner on a daily basis through Skype.
It was great!
My mom was a bit mystefied about how it all worked but we found it a useful tool for home working.
Regards
Paula
