What is a VA, you may ask? It stands for Virtual Assistant and there are lots and lots of people setting up as virtual assistants from home. Someone who knows plenty about this is Kate Bacon, so we're featuring some useful information from the lady herself.
Show-stopper
Kate Bacon is a good friend of Enterprise Nation; she is a VA herself, advises others who want to do the same and she also produced a great factsheet for visitors to her stand at the One Life Live show. With permission, we're re-producing it here.
Kate's top tips
What is a VA?:
A VA is a virtual service provider of administrative support who works with clients from their own home office. A VA is expected to possess the skillset, training and business knowledge gained through at least 5 years upper level experience in the non-virtual world.
Willingness to learn
You can always improve your skills and you WILL learn as you go along – don’t let a little nervousness put you off. Starting a new venture always involves a learning curve and you can get support along the way!
A proactive approach
You will no longer be a managed employee…you will have to manage yourself. Having a forward thinking, solution-focused approach will not only benefit your clients but also set you apart in the industry.
Excellent multi-tasking skills
It is not uncommon for a VA to work with 5 or 6 clients at any one time. Think about how you would cope if they all wanted something on the same day. Good management of your clients’ expectations, and scheduling work into your calendar can handle this.
Get Support
Join the VA Business Start Up course to gain the support of both your trainer (who has been running a successful VA business for 5 years) and a group of like-minded individuals who are all working towards the same goal! Ongoing 1-2-1 coaching support is also available through Pier to Peer Coaching.
Kate Bacon is an experienced VA and founder of the VA Business Start Up Course

Comment: Thank you for highlighting the VA industry. It's now really coming of age, having been around for more than 10 years and it's good to see what's required to be a good VA is acknowledged and promoted.
