You've just embarked on a marketing campaign for your website, the visitor numbers are going up but you want these users to engage with you in the future too. So how do you sign up visitors to register on your site or newsletter? Enterprise Nation contributor, Leon Bailey Green, provides some answers.
You might think the key to having visitors sign up on your site is a case of simply making it easy to sign up or offering incentives to register, but actually that's an aside. It's all about what you're offering, in terms of your product/brand/service, and the quality of visitors to your website.
Start by analysing where your website visitors are coming from. Google Analytics is a free tool which allows you to see how people found your website. You will even be able to look at the keyphrases people use on search engines to find your website.
This will tell you what your visitors want, and you can tailor your services to them, and promote clearly on your website that your newsletter contains more information on what they're looking for.
To be encouraged to become a member you must allow users to interact with the website without signing up. It may seem counterintuitive but by allowing someone to comment on a news post without registering, you can capture their email address if they opt to receive an email when someone replies to their comment.
With each return visit they will build up an affinity with your website and eventually register for another level of interactivity.
So in short, start by making sure you're attracting the right people, find out the key offerings most of your visitors are looking for, promote clearly on your website the benefits of signing up/registering and tease your audience with member benefits.
