Making friends in the forum
14/01/2008 send to a friend
On 6th January new home business owner, Shani, posted a note in the forum asking for tips on marketing and promoting her website. One week on and this forum thread is now bursting with great marketing suggestions.
Advice needed
This was Shani’s post:
"Hi everyone
I've just set up my website www.hushbaby.co.uk where I intend to sell baby products. The website is all set up and ready to go but I'm finding it difficult to market + very limited budget. Just wondering if anybody has any ideas on how I could market it without spending too much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely
Shani"
The response
And the responses have poured in ever since! Here’s a brief summary of the suggestions:
- Generate ‘word of mouth’ marketing by ensuring that friends can recommend a friend through your emails and newsletters.
- Do an online audit of all the sites that might be able to help you, mother & baby forums and sites like enterprisenation.com, motherswhowork.co.uk, any that might be relevant. Then have a look at how you might contribute - send them a press release about your products, see if they ever carry out product reviews etc.
- a good website to use is www.mediauk.com - it lists all radio, TV, newspapers and magazines. Under each one there is info such as editors name and website address - once you are on the website, find the contact button and often the journalists are listed, each with their department or specialist area.
We’ll be following Shani to see if she puts these ideas into practice and thanks to everyone who kindly contributed suggestions. – Emma Jones
