Joy McLinden is very excited. The past 14 months have been a happy whirlwind as she and husband, Chris, started their online licensing business, Licencenet.com. Joy manages the business by day, whilst Chris, who still holds down a full time job, helps out at nights and weekends.

So, what does the site do and why is it of interest to home business owners?

“the site is an online marketplace” Joy says “that performs two main jobs; if you need a license, you can gain one via the site and if you if have a license and want to find licensees, the site can help with that too. The reason why home business owners should be interested is because licensing protects the business and can also make you money.”

Joy went on to explain in simple terms the definition of a copywrite license.

“Think of it as taking a particular chunk of knowledge in your business and licensing that to someone else for them to use.”

This could be anything from your trade name through to a course you’ve developed or content you’ve written. One of Joy’s clients is a life coach who had written books and produced presentations and videos about her art. She’s now licensed this material and others are paying her for the right to use it.
