In Love and In Business: DaisychainBaby.co.uk

In the build up to Valentine's Day we're profiling couples who run businesses together from home. Lindsay and Peter Drabwell are one such couple. Read on to find out about the secret of their success in love and in business.
How did it come about that you started working together?
Lindsay: I came up with the idea of the type of business that I wanted to start somewhat on a whim, and started looking into whether it was viable. At that point, Pete was his always supportive self, but neither of us knew whether it would get anywhere. Once I knew that we could bring suppliers on board and that aspect of it could be done on quite a modest budget, I thought of a name and DaisychainBaby.co.uk was born. It was then that Pete really joined in as he was responsible for putting the website together, so it's definitely become a joint venture.
Who does what in the business?
Pete: Our backgrounds complement each other and the business. My background is computing and IT security, so I like to stay behind the scenes and provide the technical support, which so far has been creating the site, implementing the database and ensuring security is watertight. Lindsay makes more of the business decisions and uses her experience in client service management to be the face behind the business, whilst also liaising with the suppliers and customers.
Lindsay: We're looking to take DaisychainBaby.co.uk on the road in 2009 and already have a monthly market slot booked in. I think it's slowly dawning on Pete that he's going to have to be more front of house than behind the scenes but I know he'll be great!
What is your secret to having a successful marriage and business?
Remembering what came first - the marriage. It's fairly safe to say that the few months in the run up to the launch last year were extremely stressful and a normal life as we knew it sort of stopped. Now that things are up and running, we're working just as hard, but that pressure of making the launch date has passed, and so it's much easier to create the work/life balance now. Taking breaks from the business and just being together every once in a while is really important. Ultimately, so long as we're rock solid in the marriage, we're confident that the business has every chance of success too.
