Phil Moran from My Secret Kitchen has posted in the forum about how much he likes the online press release service, Response Source. If he passes by there today, he’ll spot a release from fellow Enterprise Nation member, Claire Bennett, who’s talking about childcare this Summer. It’s an example of a well written release and we weren’t swayed at all by the fact it gives us a mention!

No childcare headaches this summer for UK’s growing number of home-based business mums

Submitted by: Music Bugs Ltd

Swindon, 10 July 2008: Working parents up and down the UK are already starting to feel the pressure as the long summer holidays loom, leaving them to face the perennial battle to find suitable child-care.

At the Head Offices of Music Bugs however, a company offering flexible preschool music franchises, all is calm as franchisees opt to set aside their tambourines and puppets for the holidays to concentrate on enjoying some quality, stress-free time with their families.

“One of the main attractions of a home-based franchise opportunity such as ours is that mums can choose their own part time and family friendly hours”, says Claire Bennett who founded the company and launched the franchise opportunity 18 months ago. “We receive dozens of enquiries every week from women, mostly mums, who are looking to escape from the rat race and take more control over their working day.”

It is a trend that is backed up by research published by Enterprise Nation, the Home Business Website who say “more than 60% of new businesses are now started from home – that’s 1,400 new businesses every week and mums are leading the way as they seek to readjust their work-life balance”

Says Bennett “firms and businesses are simply not doing enough to provide working parents with the flexibility they need to balance work and family life and we are now seeing a growing trend of mums who have decided to take the matter into their own hands”

Music Bugs classes now operate around the UK. The classes are aimed at children aged 6 months to 4 years and provide play-based interactive music sessions to aid in the development of language, numeracy, social and physical skills. Current franchisees include teachers, childminders, sales executives, mums, hairdressers and recruitment consultants. New applications are welcomed.

Music Bugs were recently voted as the ‘UK’s Best Music Class’ in the 2008 What’s on 4 Little Ones Awards and the classes have received celebrity endorsements from Soprano and Opera Singer Lesley Garrett.

Note from Enterprise Nation: this is a crisp and clear press release. A good, timely headline with back-up evidence, quotes and a call to action to contact the company for more details. We hope it brings you some decent publicity, Claire.

Comment: It's nice but she needs to get the story in the first par. How would you sell this story in 20 words to somebody? You have to grab attention first rather than set the scene e.g. "A unique way of keeping children happily occupied during the long summer holidays is proving popular with hardworking parents nationwide"

Comment: Thanks for your input Alex, it is always helpful to receive feedback from others. The gist of the story however centers around the fact that many working parents don't have the option to take time off during the summer holidays and so must fork out for costly childcare (if they are fortunate enough to be able to be find it) so that they can continue to work and remain in employment. It isn't about keeping children happily occupied, it's about ensuring someone can look after them in your abscence.

Our franchisees however don't have to face this conundrum because their businesses are flexible meaning that they can take off the entire school holidays if they wish too and be at home with their children themselves.

Whoops! I guess my press release wasn't as succinct as I thought it was!

Comment: Ok, fair enough, I've got the wrong angle, but you still need to get your story into the first par - as it stands there's nothing newsworthy in it so runs the risk of being given an early bath. How about something more like:

"Working parents nationwide are set to beat costly childcare fees during the summer holidays thanks to an awardwinning musical solution."

Just had a look at your web site - it looks great.

Comment: Thanks Alex, we really like your headline actually so I'm going to pinch it right now!

I have about 200 press contacts who are going to receive this today so if it goes to print, I promise to send you something nice in the post :)

Cheers!
