Blackbirds and Blackberrys in a home office garden
19/05/2008 send to a friend
Tom Reader isn’t baking four and twenty blackbirds in a pie but he sure is enjoying watching them from his new garden office. He writes in to enter the Orange/BlackBerry competition and to reveal the view from his working window.
Chatting with Tom
We think we’re going to like Tom Reader. He runs Alver Valley Software and is in a hurry to know if he’s won a new Blackberry that he can use whilst watching the Blackbirds. Confused? Me too!
Tuesday
This note arrives from Tom. He’s eager to know when we’re going to announce the winners of the Orange/BlackBerry competition:
“Maybe I should just chill out and wait. After all, this is only my second week in my new garden office, and what a couple of weeks of weather I've chosen. Maybe I should just go out and feed the Blackbird who is looking hopefully at me, and get the Hoegaarden in the fridge ready for 5:30pm. Working at home *really is* great. I've been doing that for years, but the garden is one step better still in this weather. I must remember this when it's November.”
Thursday
Still not knowing if he’s won the competition, Tom writes again:
“The blackbird is here again, along with about 7 baby stirlings and two very hassled looking parents - I know the feeling. I didn't realise working in the garden with a direct view over the bird table was going to turn me into Bill Oddie. In fact, maybe my office wouldn't make a bad 'hide'. Pics at Flickr.com (see below link) in case you're particularly bored at your next coffee break.”
He may be turning in to Bill Oddie but we just love how this naturist writes about the finer side of homeworking!

Survey
Enterprise Nation is undertaking the largest ever survey of home businesses and we'd love you to help!
It'll only take a few minutes. Your responses won't be shared but they will paint a picture of just what's happening in entrepreneurial homes across the UK. The results will be written up in our 2008 Home Business Report, which will be free and available on the site in October.
