Businesses you can start at home: party planning for kids

We have quite a few members who are in the business of planning parties for kids. And what a great business to be in …all that fun and all those smiling faces. Does it sound like something you’d like to do?

Party planners

There are three companies in particular that show you can easily start a business from home that brings joy to children all year round.

The Soap and Bubble Company

Rennae Matthews is the lady behind the wonderfully-named ‘The Soap and Bubble Company.’  She arranges soap-making parties for kids, described like this:

“Watch them create their own fizzing bath bombs, floating duck soaps and shimmering body glitter. So much fun - you'll probably end up joining in!”

To promote the business, Rennae drives about in the ‘bubble machine’ – a branded VW Beetle that she says helps with brand visibility as well as providing an excellent ice breaker.

Earth Mother Party Bags

Started by Eloise Howes, this is a family company that specialises in Eco friendly party bags. The bags come complete with a mixture of delightful handmade, recycled and fair trade gifts. A sure treat for any Birthday girl or boy!

Face off Cheshire

This business is run by Angela Emery who is a savvy marketeer. Angela says:

“Since launching the business in 2006, 90% of my business has come directly from google searches for facepainters in Cheshire. Every party I attend I always leave a stock of business cards to add to party bags.”

Angela also networks with other facepainters online and says this has helped her make business contacts and new friends too.

Each of these business owners have a great idea, fun-looking websites and they make the most of promoting their business at each and every party.

Key points

If you’re thinking of starting a home business in the party planning space, learn from our role models and take on board their points:

  • market yourself at schools and other places where Mums will be
  • link up with other event organisers who may be looking for your specialised skill
  • check you have the right insurance
  • develop a nice website that shows how you will bring a party to life!
